Investment in Brno

Brno is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, home to approximately 400,000 residents. It is located in the southeast of the country, near the borders with Austria and Slovakia. The city is the cultural and political capital of the South Moravian region and is considered the central city in Moravia, particularly in terms of industry and commerce.

Transportation in Brno

Brno has 12 tram lines, 14 bus lines, and 11 night bus lines. A subway system is also planned. The city is connected to the Brno-Vienna railway, the oldest railway line in the Czech Republic (operating since 1839), and has 9 train stations. Brno has an urban ring road and serves as a European transportation hub:

  • Highway D1 leads to Prague and Ostrava
  • Highway D2 leads to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia
  • D52 highway to Vienna
  • The future D43 highway is expected to connect Brno with northwest Moravia

In addition, Brno has two airports:

  • Brno-Tuřany Airport serves international flights and Czech police helicopter operations
  • Medlánky Airport is used for domestic and leisure flights, including hot air balloons, gliders, and drones

There is also a 130 km-long bike trail from Brno to Vienna.

Investment in Brno

Because the city lies on the plain that connects northern and southern Europe, it is one of the most developed cities in the Czech Republic. For example, it has had a university since 1919 (Masaryk University, the second-largest in the country), the Czech army was founded there, and it is home to the Czech Constitutional Court, the Office of the Prosecutor General, and the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic.

The city also hosts international motorcycle races as part of the Grand Prix and has tourist attractions in various fields, such as the Gregor Mendel Museum built in honor of the monk who developed the field of genetics, the Technical Museum popular with families, and Villa Tugendhat, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Two years ago, Brno was selected by the British magazine Financial Times as one of the ten European cities of the future. The survey of 500 cities across Europe focused on economic potential, value for money, the existence of a business-friendly environment (including foreign investments), and infrastructure. In recent years, the municipality has updated its urban development plans, further enhancing the city’s potential for foreign investment. The city has three industrial zones:

Brno Industrial Zone – Černovická Terrace

A 200-dunam area located near the international airport, highways D1 and D2 (routes E50 and E65), and the railway line from Brno to Slovakia. The area hosts economic activity from many international companies, including German firms such as Bosch and Miele.

Brno Technology Park

The park is located near Brno University of Technology and spans 190,000 square meters of mixed-use space for offices, research, light industry, leisure, and services. Companies with offices in the park include IBM, Motorola, and Vodafone.

Heršpická Development Zone

A 25-dunam area between the historic city center and the southern section of the urban ring road. It includes high-rise office buildings and multipurpose facilities. With the planned redevelopment of the railway junction, additional areas will be added.

Real Estate Investment in Brno

Although Brno is, as noted, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic, property prices in the city are lower than in Prague, although they have also risen in recent years like across the entire country. This means that real estate investment in Brno is a secure investment with potential returns.
