Czechia Ranked 10th Best Country in the World for Families
It’s no secret that as the cost of living rises, starting a family becomes a costly matter. As a result, priorities shift, and more families look for places that offer affordable education for children, low crime rates, and a family-friendly environment.
Good education is a key factor, as it impacts the future of children – which means there must be access to quality schools near the home, at a reasonable price.
Family and social policies, especially parental leave, are also crucial. It’s surprising how many countries still lag behind when it comes to paid paternity leave, for example.
One of the metrics used to evaluate these factors weighs salaries and rental prices, providing a good indication of both cost of living and quality of life. In general, high wages and low rent suggest a high standard of living.
BigTravel created a ranking of the best countries in the world for families. They assessed more than 100 countries across five key categories:
- Global Safety Index
- Healthcare
- OECD Median Income
- Rental Index
- UN Education Index
For maternity and paternity leave, countries were awarded up to 25 points each, bringing the total possible score to 150.
So where did Czechia land on the list? A respectable 10th place.
Here’s why Czechia earned its spot (quote from the study): “Czechia is often ranked as one of the most livable countries in the world, and it’s just as pleasant for families.”
The country scores top marks for both healthcare and rent affordability, with some of the lowest living costs in our ranking. Salaries ($31,771) are lower than in leading countries, as is the education index (0.89).
Parental leave policies are also strong, offering 28 weeks of paid maternity leave and 14 days of paid paternity leave.
This means families can benefit from universal healthcare, with free medical care for Czech citizens, permanent residents, and foreigners employed by local companies.”
