Holešovice – One of the 20 Coolest Neighborhoods in the World
Just a reminder – about a year and a half ago, we named Holešovice the new investment gem of Prague. And just a few weeks ago, Time Out Magazine confirmed our view by ranking it as one of the 20 coolest neighborhoods in the world – outranking other Prague districts like Nové Město (ranked 49th) and Karlín (ranked 38th).
The list, published annually for the past three years, includes the 40 coolest neighborhoods in the world. In 2019 and 2018, Nové Město and Karlín represented Prague, but this year Holešovice took the lead. Located in Prague 7, it ranked 20th globally in the Time Out index.

Time Out Reflects the Spirit of the Times
Naturally, this year’s list reflects the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The magazine’s editors added new questions to their global survey of 38,000 people, aiming to better capture what makes a neighborhood truly “cool.” Beyond the usual questions on culture, food, and nightlife, residents were asked about the sense of community in their area.
James Manning, Time Out’s global editor, said this year’s list is less about travel planning and more about celebrating urban life’s hottest spots. According to him, neighborhoods are the soul of a city, especially during tough times, as they showcase local spirit through businesses, cultural scenes, and community initiatives. This year’s ranking reflects the resilience, energy, and unity of neighborhood residents.
Holešovice – Prague’s Art Capital
This is exactly what earned Holešovice its #20 spot. Amanda Bell, Time Out’s Prague correspondent, describes the district as a mix of artists, young families, and hipsters – far enough from the historic center to have its own vibe. It’s full of bars, cafés, and cultural spaces, and home to some of Prague’s favorite green parks. The neighborhood’s revival is credited to local government support, branding it as the art capital of Prague.
Letná Park is the district’s crown jewel – not only housing Prague’s scenic beer garden, but also a thriving summer cultural hub and a massive 75-meter metronome (where a Stalin statue once stood). She also recommends not missing DOX, a stunning contemporary art gallery that spans 3,000 square meters.
She highlights more must-see places in the neighborhood, including:
- Paralelni Polis – the world’s first café to accept only Bitcoin
- Stromovka Park, a favorite for families and fitness lovers
- Bio Oko Cinema
- Výstaviště Exhibition Grounds, a venue for major cultural events
- Prague Market, currently being transformed into the city’s central market
Holešovice is Not Alone
While Time Out ranked Holešovice 20th out of 40 neighborhoods, it’s not the only publication to sing its praises. The Guardian named it one of the 10 coolest neighborhoods in Europe, and The Independent also lauded it. In one European coolness index of 23 neighborhoods, it placed 15th.
