Members of the Prague City Council approved the construction of Metro Line D between the neighborhoods of Pankrác and Nové Dvory

A document discussed by Prague’s municipal transport committee reveals that the City Council has approved the construction of Metro Line D on the Pankrác – Nové Dvory section. The construction will take eight years and is expected to cost 52 billion Czech crowns, part of which will be funded by subsidies from European funds.

The construction of Metro Line D has faced numerous delays. Originally scheduled to begin in 2010, a petition filed in 2016 postponed the process. The petition called for changes to the approved designs for the stations between Pankrác and Písnice, arguing that the designs were outdated and no longer reflected current trends in public transportation.

The new Metro Line D will connect the city center to neighborhoods in the southern part of Prague, areas that currently have insufficient public transport options. All trains on this line will be driverless.

“Our goal is to make each station a place of high artistic value where Prague residents feel comfortable. The new line will not resemble the most recent stations on Line A,” said Prague Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr. Many artists are expected to participate in the inauguration event of the new line.

“Prague does not compromise on aesthetics and aims to implement modern ideas here as well. Our goal is to present new metro stations that meet the global artistic standard,” said Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib.

The Prague Transport Company has launched a website dedicated entirely to the upcoming metro line. Visitors can find detailed information about the new line and follow the progress of the construction.
